FAQ Steps
Information on steps for vans and passenger transport vehicles
Are there permissible overall lengths for vehicles?
lt. Paragraph 22 of the Road Traffic Regulations:
Height of vehicle and load is limited to max. 4m.
Loads may not protrude forwards beyond the vehicle up to a height of 2.5m, to the rear max. 1.5m.
Do steps have to be registered?
The installation of a step is not subject to registration and does not require approval by an expert or a testing organization in accordance with Section 21 of the STVZO.
According to paragraph 19.2 of the STVZO, the operating license does not expire! According to EC Regulation 661/2009, rear steps may not be added to the overall vehicle length.
In accordance with this EC Directive 97/27, retractable side steps may also not be taken into account when measuring the vehicle width.
For our rigid side steps, a parts certificate is supplied for some vehicles, as the vehicle width actually changes.
The side folding steps in the interior of the vehicle are also registration-free and do not need to be entered in the vehicle registration document.
This series of steps is carried in the passenger compartment when folded and does not change the outer vehicle contour.
We recommend carrying the installation instructions with you for all steps.
Can an electric step be installed if an automatic sliding door is fitted?
Electric steps can be combined with the door operators, as they are 2 separate circuits.
How long does it take for an electric step to be extended?
Depending on the model, the extension time is 1.5 - 4 seconds.
Which rear step works for vehicles with parking sensors?
The narrow rear steps and double steps made of stainless steel work without affecting the parking sensors.
In the case of continuous steel steps, some vehicles with Parktronic are able to adjust the parking sensors so that the step is not recognized as an obstacle.
If this is not the case with your vehicle, cover caps can be fitted to the sensors. The cover caps deactivate the parking sensors.
For steps up to 1,400 mm overall width, it is sufficient to cover the inner sensors.
The outer sensors will then continue to function.
How do the cover caps for parking sensors work?
The inner circle transmits an ultrasonic signal that is received by the outer ring. The cover caps mute the transmitter and thus deactivate it.
