The VW T7 Transporter marks the start of a new era at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. The new VW T7 Transporter shares its platform with the Ford Transit Custom. Both vehicles are produced at the modern Ford plant in Kocaeli (Turkey). Volkswagen is thus pursuing a clear objective: to reduce development costs, increase efficiency and offer customers a technically mature product. While the body structure, chassis and drive technology are almost identical, VW has opted for its own line of design, interior and digital systems. The result: a van with Ford technology but clear VW DNA.
Drives and driving performance
The T7 Transporter is offered with several drive options:
- Diesel engines (TDI) with optimized efficiency and up to around 150 hp
- Plug-in hybrid (PHEV) with combined electric and gasoline power
- Fully electric variant – VW eTransporter (technically closely related to the Ford E-Transit Custom)
This means that Volkswagen will cover all commercial requirements in the future - from classic tradesmen's vans to locally emission-free city vehicles.
Design, comfort and interior
Optically, the T7 Transporter clearly remains a Volkswagen: a striking front with a wide radiator grille, flat LED headlights and a straightforward side view with large sliding doors. The interior has been completely redesigned and offers modern controls, ergonomic seats and intelligent storage concepts. A digital workplace with a large infotainment system, smartphone integration and numerous driver assistance systems also makes the new van more comfortable and safer in everyday use.
