Since 2017, the Crafter has been built on a modern platform – identical in many respects to the MAN TGE. Depending on the intended use, the Crafter is available with front-wheel, rear-wheel, or all-wheel drive and in different weight classes. Older VW Crafter series (relevant for conversion and accessories)
Before the current Crafter generation (from 2017), which was developed entirely by Volkswagen, there was the VW Crafter I (2006–2016). This model was developed in collaboration with Mercedes-Benz and was largely based on the Sprinter of the time. It was built in several lengths (L1–L4) and roof heights (H1–H3) and was already in high demand for professional interior fittings, roof racks, and steps – many accessory solutions from this period are still available.
